Firstly, Everything works perfectly in my local machine which is Mac 10.8, but I want use the same powerline theme for my remote server which is an EC2 instance, after I install the theme, install the font in ~/.fonts folder and github.com/cmoel/tom_dale_ember_screencast, then to the remote server, it still shows the crazy characters:

I had the same issue, but installing the correct font for Terminal fixed it: https://github.com/Lokaltog/powerline-fonts

I just updated OMZ and my special character stopped working as well, I have the fonts properly installed and have been using this theme for some time now.

Did you have the last version of the theme with a font from https://github.com/Lokaltog/powerline-fonts ?
