Better approach to "plotting"

We should create printable bingo cards as an object, then do something sensible with them, such as print to file (not necessarily PDF). Opening a pdf device, "plotting" the card, then closing the PDF is suboptimal. Forgive me: current approach is based on an ancient R script I wrote in the hour before previous Super Bowl parties. Suggestions welcome!
