[JENKINS-14671] Use JIRA Remote application links instead of comments

Open rantoniuk opened this issue 13 years ago • 5 comments

Many people have requested that this plugin doesn't spam the jira comments section (e.g. JENKINS-12605). JIRA plugins such as marvalution may work for in-house jira instances, but not hosted or on-demand instances.

Instead of using comments, could the new jira remote issue links be created instead. These will be shown separately from the comments and could link directly to the jenkins builds.

zajic:

This issue is blocked by issue JRJC-171 in Jira rest java Client library that we used to communicate with Jira.

Considering how old the original Atlassian ticket is, it's unlikely it will get resolved anytime soon.

In the meanwhile, the new Jira 8 skin comes with new image defaults that blow up Jenkins status icons into giant blobs. The comment section is a sad sight.

If there was ever a time to support web links, it's now. We've recently introduced similar support in Gerrit, had to implement the missing REST API bit within the Jira plugin. Shouldn't be hard to replicate in Jenkins, will take a look.
