Package Maintenance 2025

Open jsfanatik opened this issue 10 months ago • 7 comments

Hi! I am running a mobile app that includes the react-native-swipe-list-view package. expo-doctor says that the package is unmaintained. Are you still planning to keep this package up to date? Thanks.

@jemise111 If you're no longer able to maintain this package, would you be interested in handing it over? I'd be open to keeping the package running, just FYI, given that it appears to still be very popular. Let me know what your thoughts are on that. Thanks!

Hey @jsfanatik I'll point you to a related comment I left in the past. Feel free to shoot me an email and we can talk more about ownership, thanks!

Hi Jesse,

I hope you are well! I read your related comment and understand your situation, as I've also had some recent job changes. Adulting is hard 😄

I recently tried switching to another similar swipelist repo: https://github.com/esthor/react-native-swipeable-list. However, this repo does not support bidirectional swiping. Your package appears to be the only viable swipe list package with bidirectional swiping in the React Native component directory. I'd be happy to try and update it if you want.

Best,

jsfanatik

Hi! I sent you an email last night. I look forward to chatting with you and seeing what we can figure out as far as a solution for the repo. Much appreciated!

@jemise111 @jsfanatik Is there any update on whether you'll be updating the package or considering handing over ownership? I'm currently using it in my project and would like to know if I should expect future updates or start looking into alternatives. ( looks like there is no alternative for this package)

Hey @robinGiri no update yet. To be totally transparent @jsfanatik and I chatted a bit about ownership but haven't come to any conclusions. In the background I also started working on some major updates to the lib, but can't commit to any timeline. Apologies for the non-answer but that's the state of things at the moment. My intention is to provide future updates

I'm currently running into the limits of this library with the latest RN0.80. My swipe actions no longer remain open. I'm switching to Reanimated Swipeable from the react-native-gesture-handler library: https://docs.swmansion.com/react-native-gesture-handler/docs/components/reanimated_swipeable. I already have this library in my project for some other things, which made it a no-brainer for me to start using it for this too.
