Ease connecting to different servers
There are situations in which the same Jellyfin server may be accessed by different network paths, hence having multiple IP addresses. As the app connects automatically to the last server/IP that was used the previous time, the app hangs on a white page until a (long) timeout occurs. At that time you can manually type a new server address and connect via a different network path.
To optimise the user experience, the app may provide the user to define multiple servers and prompt the user to select the desired server upon opening the app IF more than one server is defined.
I have 2 servers both running 10.6 and 10.7RC concurrently in docker. Both servers are at different location and I frequently access them through VPN. So I have 8 ipaddresses for 4 instances of jellyfin (4 local + 4 remote). So yes, the introduction of this feature would be highly appreciated
+1 One of the main things that's holding me back from testing RC releases as I primarily use app + chromecast
A workaround, for now, to use 2 servers is to sideload the debug version of the app. That way you have 2 separate apps to use. Not the ideal solution but it helps a bit.
I too was seeing the white screen issue, and it wasn't until running across this that I realized it was because my jellyfin server sometimes runs on one of two different ports. Thank you for connecting these dots, hope this sees some movement soon.
maybe out of scope for this, but it would be neat if the app could save connections to a number of servers, and show all the libraries either separately as tabs or all together in a big list. so, rather than a white screen, the ui could load relatively quickly, and grey out unreachable addresses. bonus points if the app could recognize where there are multiple saved paths to the same server
A fab floating button to enter new server should be enough on unreachable browser page.
Any updates on this?
This would be an invaluable feature. Just wanted to +1 on it.
I would very much like and enjoy everyday a feature like this. Please if you can, make it happen. And thanks a lot for all the hard work already accomplished. You guys are the best.
I'd love to see a easy switching option. atm its a pain manually entering the address everytime
I support this request. I have multiple friends who have their own instance of jellyfin, it would be great to have one view for all server at once. And maybe show for every film that would be duplicated the different versions (4k, 1080p...).
Thanks!
@awesome-rdash It sounds to me like you want a unified/federated view of multiple servers. That seems quite different to what this issue is requesting. Maybe you should open a new ticket.
