Support for SharePlay
Describe the feature you'd like I would like to see support for SharePlay on iOS so we can take advantage of the FaceTime integration.
One advantage in using SharePlay is that audio levels are mixed properly when someone speaks during the call (lowers content volume temporarily).
Additional context Apple Developer: Shared Activities API
Hi I would like to add support for Shared Activities aka SharePlay. I am new to this project, so any help in determining 1) whether this is possible, and 2) whether this belongs elsewhere (VLCKit?) would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the interest! I haven't taken a look at SharePlay in full, but just even looking at the documentation tells me that the app isn't at a state where this can be implemented yet.
Hey! Has this been revisited recently? I’d love to have SharePlay
I would like to imagine that any form of SharePlay would pose some serious risks as most content being shared is unable to get verified from a avenue of copyright as it would be streaming over cellular or WiFi to another friend thus a form of P2P. SharePlay in iOS requires both parties to own the same content or have access to the same content.
@extraslute This is incorrect, SharePlay is a protocol and is not exclusively designed for copyrighted materials or rights owners. It is also used to share experiences including app activities, not just video.
You may be thinking of restrictions many streaming apps place on their viewers, however the Apple protocol places no such restrictions and is end to end encrypted like all other FaceTime activities (see Apple Developer video linked to 1:12)
SharePlay would be great for Swiftfin and would allow folks to sync up their playback to a server they already both have access to using their downloaded Swiftfin apps.
