[FEAT] Chromecast support.
Would be nice to see in-client chromecast support. Whilst I am not a user, it probably makes sense to investigate Apple AirPlay and maybe even DLNA/UPnP (this one is a bit harder to justify if difficult, as its essentially depreciated protocols that are not used on new devices).
This would be nice feature to have. chromecast-api looks to be a good option for implementing this in Sonixd.
I will be the first to say that Chromecast support, from a developer perspective, is a flaming pile of garbage. But as a user... yes please I also would like this :)
Seems like while chromecast support is doable, gapless/crossfade playback won't be possible unless I manage to stream the audio from the system itself to the device (which I believe is out of scope for me to implement).
I can add basic chromecast functionality which includes the regular playlist playback based on Sonixd's player.
I found a few other projects out there that may be able to supplement your needs if gapless/fade is a deal breaker:
- Desktop Audio Streamer Windows
- Chromecast Audio Stream Windows
- Soundcast macOS
Know that this feature request is quite old at this point, but I would love basic chromecast functionality. Even without gapless playback, this would be an incredible thing to have.
I agree, it would be so good to have chromecast support ! Devs please hear us out :)
