This function returns the IP address of the connecting client, not the server ip. I'll have to look into Rhttpd and see if that info is available to a request.

This seems to be a bug in R 3.1.1 Rhttpd handling of headers, although I can't verify for sure. Can you try with R devel?

Yes, that is a concern and there may be some speed gains in switching. But the bigger bottlenecks are the garbage collector and the string table.
