@mredivo Question... What if we used a [gossip implementation](https://github.com/hashicorp/memberlist) instead? Seems like that could solve quite a few problems.

There's [Serf](https://github.com/hashicorp/serf) as well, which seems to be a more robust implementation of memberlist. It's a standalone agent, though.

It does a lot, based on the functions asked for. We'd have to implement the functions listed here, at minimum: http://graphite.readthedocs.org/en/latest/functions.html

Yep. That's more of a pipe dream on my end of things, given that graphite-api is now the slowest part of the grafana -> graphite-api -> cassabon chain.
