ADJUSTING DISTANCE WITHOUT LOSING SENSITIVITY

I just got some RCWL-0516 boards, I have been testing around with, but the original range is too big for my use, I need arond 2.5m, I have been trying adding a resistor into R-GN pads, but this makes creates a huge decrease of the sensor sensitivity. Is there any way too achieve a smaller detection area without sacrificing a lot of sensitivity?
