The treatment in X11 and Seats should also be different. From a technical point of view, using state space methods, the problem could be solved quite easily in a model based approach. The main issue is more methodological: how to define the overlapping spans, what will be the criterions used to "glue" the components in the overlapping spans... Difficult to evaluate the workload for the time being.
