I would like to donate to the Osara project, where could I do it?

Hello boys and girls, how are you? First of all wish you all a merry Christmas, really. I hope and they have not passed it like me, lying in bed, thank God it is not covid, I just took the test and it came back negative. But really, I've had a bad time. A thousand apologies for rambling, I just wanted to ask, where could I collaborate with the Osara project? I do not know if they receive donations but as we say in my country, I do not want to keep the pike, perhaps the latter will not be understood at all with the translator, but it is an expression of my country🇪🇨, I say this because I also tried to donate to NV- Access and donations are blocked for Ecuadorians; yeah, sorry, but I already hit my head against the wall long enough for an hour every day hahahahaha out of frustration. Well, if it is possible that I donate to the project, considering that I have been getting some small jobs, and that without Reaper (which I already bought his license) and Osara, I could never have done what I can do today. I can only thank those in charge of this project, but since I do not want this to remain in simple words, I would like to take what I say further and send a little of what the world moves with, Money. I also ask because although I have reread the main page of the project here on GitHub I have not found anything related. I also take the opportunity to ask when the key documentation for Osara will be updated in the Readme as I would like to translate it or at least see if new commands have been added. All the best.

First of all, thanks for your willingness to support development of OSARA.

I've been asked questions like this a few times lately. The situation is a little trickier than it was in the past.

While I'm still the primary developer of OSARA and have contributed the majority of the code, there are others now who contribute semi-regularly. That makes it difficult to figure out where donations should go in order to keep things fair.

There is the community Christmas album produced to raise funds for OSARA development. Those funds are managed by Gianluca and are distributed based on discussions within the OSARA development community. That's probably the best way to ensure funds can be divided fairly, though it's perhaps less direct than some might like.

Another issue is the services used for international money transfers. For sending money to me personally, I use PayPal, but I understand that causes problems for some countries and I believe there can be hefty transaction fees.

This came up on RWP, prompting me to do a bit more research:

  1. This Stack Exchange thread doesn't really tell me anything I didn't already know, but does highlight the concerns I have above.
  2. This article suggests a few platforms. The most interesting to me for OSARA are Bountysource and Open Collective.
  3. I've also considered signing up for GitHub sponsors, but that doesn't solve the issue of fairly distributing the funds.

@jcsteh Hello. I don't know how I hadn't seen that you had left me an answer. Well, now it's 2 haha. I even thought that my question had not been answered, surely it must have passed between so many emails. I already said; I could not donate to NV-Access due to blocks from somewhere on that platform to my country, nor to Osara? Well then, what are you going to do? About what was mentioned. My suggestion would be that it be donated directly to you, since you were the creator of Osara and you are the one who decides how much goes to your other collaborators. Another suggestion would be to create a donation page that collects the funds on a monthly basis and deposits them at the end of the month in the accounts of those who collaborate the most. I speak of those who contribute temporarily to the code of Osara. Or could this project just work with NV-Access, I mean, I don't know. I know that maybe what I say sounds silly since NV-Access only takes care of NVDA, but I think that NV-Access already has its structure well established and it could be a good start. Naaa, better ignore me, I'm just rambling. In any case, yes, I think that creating the monthly sponsorship on Github would be the best, you could even make a section in Osara that says something like sponsors and they could put the names of those who donate, if they wish of course. That way everyone could see that you are donating and be encouraged. Anyway I'm going to save your mail, James, and I'll send you as we say in my country, for the queues. A little gift haha, although of course, maybe in your country it doesn't mean much hehe.

Distributing donations on a monthly or periodic basis is an interesting idea. That said, managing distribution of donations, especially across countries, is fairly labour intensive and potentially costly. That's not something I will be realistically able to manage manually.

GitHub Sponsors has the same issue: I can't distribute funds to other contributors.

NV Access made a decision to drop the OSARA project years ago when I left. They don't have the resources to devote to maintaining or managing it. Even if they did, they don't have the capacity to distribute funds to others without financial contracts.
