Zoom value not reported correctly when JAWS/NVDA are used in Italian

Open TrapYanto opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

Since when Osara supports translation, the zoom is reported differentl. For example: 120 pixels/second is read correctly, but when it gets to 248.832, I hear 248832, so it is like going from 120 to thousands of pixels in a few steps. Here's my explanation: Before, we had 3 zeroes after 120 so it was 120.000 and that was indeed read 120000 pixel/second, so we were always into the thousands pixels; now those extra zeroes are gone and so is the "thousand" word that reappears only when we have 3 other digits after the period sign. In other words, JAWS/NVDA in English considers the period sign as a decimal separator, whereas in Italian the comma is the decimal separator and the period is the thousand/hundred separator.

The correct fix here is to have OSARA use the comma instead of the period for Italian. The challenge is that I don't know how we're going to specify that information for each language, nor how to make the formatting library actually do it when necessary.

Implementation note: look at https://github.com/fmtlib/fmt/issues/305

Hello, I would like to add that also People using Osara in Spanish from Spain seem to have the same issue, that doesn't seem to affect people using Osara in Latin american Spanish though. I would also like to point out taht osara in Italian doesn't exist because there's no reaper language pack for Italian as far as I know. So as far as I can tell this issue occurs when osara is used in English with either Jaws or NVDA used in Italian, and also with Osara in Spanish with Jaws and NVDA used in spanish, But only in the Spanish from Spain version.

Given that there's no Italian translation for REAPER and thus OSARA, I really don't know how we can fix this. If REAPER and OSARA are using English, they're going to use the English decimal point. There's no way for OSARA to know that the screen reader is using another language, and even if there were, it's unclear which language OSARA should honour given that REAPER is in English.

Here's an Italian lang pack from the stash. Dunno if it's any good or not. https://stash.reaper.fm/v/41512/Reaper%206.24_italiano.ReaperLangPack
