Project Lead: django-configurations

Project lead request

I'm the maintainer of a dependent project of django-configurations, https://github.com/girder/django-composed-configuration/ . I'm also an active maintainer and contributor to many other projects in the Django ecosystem (feel free to look at my GitHub history).

Unfortunately, it looks like the django-configurations project has been inactive for ~9 months; the last code PR was merged on Jan 19, 2021 and there were over 30 open PRs with no maintainer activity. Over the past year, I had made 5 independent PRs to django-configurations, but none were fully reviewed to by the maintainers. Other users are asking "Is the project still active".

I recently joined django-configurations as a team member. I've fixed broken CI, made several other improvements myself, and reviewed most of the outstanding PRs. I've been able to merge 22 PRs so far, and I plan to clear the PR backlog entirely.

Many of these PRs were inactive for months or even years, but I've been pleased to see that after I gave them attention or reviews, some of the original PR authors have very quickly been able to respond to feedback. Since I started maintaining this project again, it looks like 2 other community members may now start to be active as maintainers too.

The django-configurations project had its last release almost 2 years ago, but there have been numerous changes since then, including support for new versions of Python and Django. I need to be designated "Project Lead" in order to publish a new release to PyPI. Before doing that, my plan is to get the remaining "easy" PRs merged and ensure that the project changelog is up to date.

Following the release, I'm committed to remaining as an active maintainer of the project and helping django-configurations to stay healthy; it is an important part of the Django ecosystem and I personally rely on it for many of my own Django deployments.

Of course, if the existing project leads, @jezdez and @blueyed , still have plans to support the release process or the project, I'd be happy to talk and coordinate our efforts. I've reached out to them via a GitHub Team message, but haven't heard back yet.
