Seems something is wrong with fetching a possible updated version number. It gives "NA" instead of the version number.

Yes, same here. Seems like this project did not get many updates in the last 2 years.

Seems like someone will need to fix this and maybe create a pull request?

I don't have a andorid build env around. For now I fetched the newest version here: https://www.whatsapp.com/android/

Apparently WhatsApp is now using a signature to download the APK, which is preventing the download of the APK from the app. It will require a workaround.

The develop branch solves the problem of obtaining the latest version available from WhatsApp, but the download doesn't work yet.
