Unfortunately adding blank lines in lists will cause different output depending on the markdown converter in use. Thank you for the suggested workaround though.
Note I don't use editable markdown for this any more, and do the lists dynamically instead, so the concrete case for me has evaporated. Still a pretty bad performance hit,...
