Temperature/Humidity sensor

Open maxmonz69 opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Hello, I bought a temperature and humidity sensor with display, running on battery. It works but it seems it's never connected to the local network (the router shows it's not connected) and devices scan return IP = 0. Batteries are fully charged and the display shows perfect wifi signal. If I check the device using the cloud it works perfectly. Any suggestion? Thanks

Unfortunately WiFi uses a lot of power, which means battery-powered devices cannot remain connected to the network. If you just happen to catch them during the brief moment they connect to report changes then you can poll them, however it is very difficult to get this timing right. You will need to switch to an always-powered one if you want local network access (I picked up a couple USB-powered temp+humidity+IR-blasters which work pretty good).

Thanks. So I should change device. What I dislike of all these smart devices is their dependency on external cloud that makes them useless without internet connection. This is why I like this kind of software libraries.

Unfortunately Tuya devices in general do not like being offline. Some work fine, others kinda work but stop sending updates, some initially appear to work but then stop if rebooted while offline, and a few just do not work at all. There's no real way to tell without buying one and trying, though I have seen some specifically advertised as working while offline.
