Add option to open emails/inbox in inbox.google.com instead of mail.google.com
inbox.google.com is a re-skin of gmail. Please add an option to use this instead of mail.google.com. It should be as simple as changing all URL hostnames from mail.google.com to inbox.google.com. Thanks!
That's a pretty good idea, and one that I considered when I got access to Inbox. However, you'll note that linking to messages in Inbox is not, unfortunately, "as simple as changing all URL hostnames from mail.google.com to inbox.google.com."
If you don't believe me, try it with one of your emails — the URL paths don't match, and you'll get an HTTP 404. In fact, clicking on individual emails in the http://inbox.google.com interface doesn't change the address bar at all. In the 30-second Google search that I made before writing this response, I couldn't find any documentation about directly linking to emails in Inbox (made more difficult by Google's unfortunate choice of "Inbox" as a product name).
If you can find some way of doing this, I'd be open to incorporating it into the next version.
Wow what a bummer. I'll see if I can find something out for you. In the meantime, could you make the option and have it only work for the "go to inbox" dropdown? That's actually the one I use the most.
I'm afraid that I'm not at a computer where I can perform Xcode builds right now, but if you're comfortable building the project from source, this is the relevant line of code.
Alright, I know a few people @ Google and I'm looking into a way to link into individual emails. I'll let you know if I learn anything.
Any updates on this issue?
I haven't heard anything from @MisterTea re: linking to individual emails, so as far as I'm aware, the concerns that I raised here still stand.
If anyone can figure out how to do this (that is, if Inbox even allows it in the first place), let me know.
