Feature request: showrss.info || RSS
How about adding rss support? such as what showrss is providing. I'd love to be able to open the player and see there's stuff ready for me to watch.
Thanks :+1:
+1 for this
Totally, I was planing on something like this, and because of @Ivshti 's awesome multipass-torrent, we could parse any type of link known to man (not only rss), you could even receive the feeds from torrent search pages if you want. :)
I'm just a bit unsure how to integrate this best in the UI. Any ideas?
What I was thinking of was a bookmarks button added to the main menu and player ui, where people can add their links with custom titles to the list. Clicking on a bookmarked link would go to an additional page where you would see a list of torrents being populated in real time as it parses the remote page.
I have an idea on the UI, how about almost straight copying showrss? their ui is great when listening the shows you follow. Example here: https://showrss.info/?cs=shows (you need to register and pick a few shows and you'll get what I mean)
Basically if that could be implemented and modified to have a play button next to the episode name it would be awesome. Obviously the play button would get the magnet and start streaming.
I do like the bookmark idea, but I would rather have a "bookmark" button that leads you to a page such as the one showrss is providing.
Just to clarify, I don't want you to reproduce showrss, just showing you in a similar manner what showrss is, from your personal rss file ofc.
UPDATE: I also noticed they allow you to export a schedule rss feed, if that could be parsed and displayed too it would be super great!

That's not hard to do, but it would be borderline illegal, and there's a lot of pressure on torrent related apps these days, I see a lot of people that got closed down with threats and court trials.
Basically, the illegality is in apps suggesting the use of torrents that hold copyrighted material. The beauty of Powder is that it is a tool, it does not suggest anything. :)
That said, I have an idea of how to do this while also leaving the decision making in the hands of the users.
Disclaimer: This is a fictional scenario, the "Youngerz" show in the demo images does not really exist. Although it is possible to be used in this way, I am not condoning the use of torrents with copyrighted material. :))
The basic concept I am playing with is this:
- Choose an RSS feed or any link from a torrent site
(it could even be a search page from a torrent site, for showrss, you could press "feeds", select some show and then press "Get feed address" to get the RSS feed link)
- Eighter drag & drop the link in Powder or press "Use a URL" in the main menu and paste it.

- Instead of trying to play the link, Powder would realize it's a RSS feed or Link to a Website and open it in a Link Parser (that uses
multipass-torrent)

- In the Link Parser, we can click any element to add it to the playlist and start playing it.

- Clicking on more elements will continue to add to the playlist.

- The Link Parser window will have two additional buttons "Bookmark" and "Track".

- Pressing on the "Bookmark" icon, will prompt to give the link you parsed a name for the Bookmarks List, where you can easily access it later on.

- If you have also selected to Track the Link, then you will see a blue bubble over the bookmark icon in the Main Menu when new torrents have been found on one of those links.
The link tracking flow would be:

I realize it's not as easy as just selecting a show by name and pressing "track". :))
But the greatness of this concept is that you could literally track anything your interested in, new movies, software releases, etc. from any torrent related site you can imagine, not just RSS feeds. :)
Looks great!
I'm sure its good enough even for me :)
Good job!
Uff, been a long time, but I've been working on a total re-write of the app since then. Something like this is partially possible now already in Powder Player Nightly, as it has a built-in generic html parser that supports finding magnet links too.
So putting any link from any torrent site (that has magnet links on it) in the input field of Use a URL, will give you a selection menu.
It's still missing some sort of bookmarking feature and maybe some tracking system (although tracking with the current parsing speed would take a pretty long time) to be complete, so this issue stays open.
If anyone wants to test this feature out, you can find the announcement and download link for the Powder Player Nightly Pre-Release here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PowderPlayer/comments/4ralk2/powder_player_v100_prerelease_available_for/
