The really small one (what, 2x2 finger) never really worked right. It wasn't a serious effort, just an attempt to reduce rendering times. But there should be a smaller size - what, 3 rows by 5 columns, or so? - it would probably work better, and some people would want it, and maybe its pieces will print faster...?
Hmm, so ok to make it three rows tall there are two clear choices:
-
get rid of rows 0 and 1; have rows 2, 3, and 4. The innermost 2u thumb key interferes with row 4, so it would have to turn into a 1u thumb key. By the relationship between the thumb and finger, row 2 is the home row; this would be the QWERTYUIOP row. Possibly weird. But this requires varying the thumb, which is presently hardcoded.
-
get rid of rows 0 and 4; have rows 1, 2, and 3. The home row is correct relative to the thumb, but one of the present two glue joints for the thumb is on row 4 so I'm not sure how the thumb would securely attach to the rest of the frame. Maybe we turn the row 4 glue joint to attach to the bottom of a column, and maybe we get rid of half the thumb keys. But those are what I figured would let us have enough keys to have only three rows of finger. (Gherkins are rarer than Plancks, likely for a practical reason.) Anyway, any of this requires varying the thumb, which is presently hardcoded.
Created #38 about the thumb.
Boy howdy, I tried 5 columns - twice now - and I didn't like it.
