idea: Possibility to set a separate folder path for models

Open vico93 opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Problem Statement

In systems with smaller main disks/partitions, an option to store the models in another one is essential to be able to use most of the models with Jan.

Feature Idea

Basically, allow the models folder to be set differently from the rest of the Data Folder (by default %AppData%\Jan-beta\data on Windows).

Similar option is already present in alternatives like LM Studio and Local AI.

Hi @vico93, Jan allows users to change the app data folder. I think this is the one you’re looking for? CleanShot 2024-11-30 at 14 36 11

Like I said. I would like to leave the rest of the data on the default folder, only the mods to be loaded in an optional separated folder.

@vico93 I got your point. That makes sense, just in case, there is also a work around that the app allow you to symlink models (Models can be stored on other disks)

yeah i'm using that workaround now. Not much elegant, but at least works.

This will be the main method going forward, apologies for inconvenience: https://jan.ai/docs/settings#import-models
