Please consider adding Custom columns in the sidebar

Hi, first, many thanks for the wonderful Calibre-Web. I only have one little frustration.

In my opinion, it would be very useful to have an entry "Genre" in the "Browse" sidebar. Actually, for me, this entry would be the most useful of all as I have organized my Calibre Library using the "Genre" metadata.

I know that it is still possible to enter one "Genre" item into the search field and have all the corresponding entries displayed.

But I also use the OPDS feed with "Chunky" on my iPad and there is no search field there, so that I cannot browse the Library by "Genre" in Chunky. The Calibre Server allows browsing by "Genre" in Chunky, and this is the only reason why I keep the Calibre Server up and running in addition to Calibre-Web.

Thanks again and best regards.

?? grafik ?? What is "Genre"?

Isn't this what "tags" are for? Also, you could simply create a bookshelf of the genre and add books to it. That's what I do.

@OzzieIsaacs "Genre" is in "Custom metadata". Screenshot 2022-06-26 at 11 21 09 It makes it possible to have "Book shelves" in Calibre. Screenshot 2022-06-26 at 11 21 43

The "Genre" is already available in "Calibre-web" as seen on the next screenshot. Page 0001

@wgibcus Yes, I have created booksheves in Calibre-web as a temporary workaround. But, it is not very convenient as I have a library of more than 1000 books and would like that the organization is in sync between Calibre and Calibre-web.

I'd also like to thank you for all of your hard work. The calibre-web interface is really nice and polished compared to the built-in calibre web interface. I especially like the dark theme and the reader is really nice as well.

The bigger issue for me is losing the hierarchy. I've created a Custom Column in calibre named Subject ( follows the Genre example ). My books are organized by Main Category ( Core Curricula, Life & Leisure, STEM, etc ), then nested Subcategory ( Life & Leisure.Cookbooks.Ethnic.American for example ). I can create a Shelf in calibre-web with all of the American cookbooks, but what if I want to browse all Ethnic cookbooks? In calibre, I would double-click the Ethnic link, which shows everything with the Ethnic Subject, as well as any children of Ethnic. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this in calibre-web.

The other issue is that Shelves are alphabetically sorted, which will intermix all of the Subjects without regard for which Main Category each Subcategory is a child of ( rather than keeping all of the Cookbooks together ). I guess I could use abbreviations for higher tiers, as in LL.C.E.American, but this just seems convoluted, takes up more space in the sidebar, and makes the presentation very messy.

Lastly, and loosely related, it would be nice to be able to multi-select books to add to a Shelf, instead of having to add each book individually.
