Large collection of fonts makes program segfault

Open LC43 opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

Hi,

i'm trying Remarkable and found out that picking a different font crashed it with:

(remarkable:12630): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkcssenumvalue.c: line 528 (_gtk_css_font_weight_value_new): should not be reached
Segmentation fault (core dumped

I've moved my fonts, and was able to open the dialog window and pick a (system) font.

not sure if the problem was with a specific font, but i suspect it was due to large number of fonts.

Can you tell us how to move fonts? are they still usable after moving?

hi @eldendo, I did a bit of cleaning and moved some old fonts from ~/.fonts into a backup diretory. And so, those fonts were no longer available to any program.

I don't have a ~/.fonts directory... all my fonts seem to be in /usr/share/fonts... so this is not a good solution for me. thx anyway.

Also, it seems that Ubuntu somehow has a general issue about fonts, and that Remarkable is not the only piece of software which has been suffering from it.

See this (completely unrelated) bug report of a crash which also has something to do with fonts, and prints out a very similar error message:

[Bug 1749035] [NEW] rednotejournal crashes when trying to select editor font Phil_Phister | Mon, 12 Feb 2018 16:01:43 -0800 (...)
