Windows 11 22H2 GPU not present in Task Manager?

Open Zjaun opened this issue 1 year ago • 9 comments

I have used this application before 22H2 and it works flawlessly (although Parsec VDD causes some problems to some OpenGL apps), I can also see the GPU in the Task Manager itself. Now, I cannot see the GPU in Task Manager, although it is present in Device Manager.

Am trying to install DaVinci Resolve in the VM (I have seen some videos/guides show that Resolve works on VM's that have the GPU passed through) and it crashes upon boot-up. The GPU itself cannot be seen in the configuration settings and I think that is the culprit.

I tried manually installing the VM using 22H2, but it seems that I cannot copy files inside System32 folder. Has anyone tried using GPU-P in 22H2?

In host, this is what it is supposed to look like

But in client, the GPU cannot be seen

Here are the videos that I've seen that has successfully ran Resolve in VMs with GPU passthrough

I have same issue, how do you fix it?

I think the culprit is either the 22H2 update or the drivers from NVIDIA. Haven't tested yet (since I haven't made an image when I was in 21H2, and I don't wanna wipe my whole pc), but you can try downgrading to 21H2 and see the results. If that didn't work, probably it's in the drivers. Can passthrough my GPU in Hyper-V last year (before 22H2 was released), but now can't.

Having same issue.

GPU is showing in device manager, but does not appear in VM Task manager or even allow to play games.

I get some similar guest limitations. Device manager lists my RTX 4070, but Task Manager' performance tab does not. A video encoding program I used didn't use hardware acceleration. Windows 10 22H2 is my host and guest OS.

GPU-PV does not actually pass a GPU through to the VM. It presents a dummy device that makes use of the drivers copied across from the host machine. Not all software will see the dummy device as the GPU you're trying to present.

This is a limitation of GPU-PV itself and, to my knowledge, has no fix

That's a bummer. After looking at similar issues on the bug tracker, nvidia-smi was brought up, so I ran it on the guest and it displays "err" instead of "WDDM" regarding the driver status. Presumably this could be related to the GPU device driver presented in device manager as being from Microsoft instead of Nvidia. Even if it can't be detected as the identical device as seen in the host OS, if there's a way to improve its recognition in the guest as being capable of hardware acceleration, that would definitely be beneficial. Or if there is some other workaround/hack I could implement to trick a program into treating it like a normal Nvidia GPU that would be worth trying too.

Same problem for me. I installed host and guest with older build W11, but after update to last build, Davinci not work. I tried older build on guest, but it not work. I think is problem on host with last build. I use PC in Company Domain, so I cannot go back to older build. I hope somebody find the solution.

For Davinci helped me this: https://github.com/jamesstringerparsec/Easy-GPU-PV/issues/304#issuecomment-1670572182
