Cannot export animations into Unity.

After exporting animations as ANIM from Smash Forge, when the .anim files are imported into Unity 2018.3, I get the error:

Failed to load 'filename.anim' because it was serialized with a newer version of Unity. (Has a higher SerializedFile version)

The ANIM files are intended to be used with Maya, so they may or may not work with Unity. There may be ways of converting the ANIM using Maya to an appropriate version.

Would it be possible to add the ability to export animations as .fbx instead? Because it is a more widely used format, and having to install Maya just for animations seems like a bit much.

Adding fbx support is non trivial, so it's not a priority at this time.

I don't have access to Maya, so it would be nice if you could add fbx support.

There are free student versions of Maya available. There are no plans to add support for any additional animation formats.
