Bfres SMD export gimbal lock and rotational noise

What files were you working with and what animations were effected?
In this example, it's "Nml_Wait" from Breath of the Wild's Player_Animations.bfres. It happens in a variety of BotW files, seemingly at random frames as far as I can tell. It seems that it's generally the waist bone's rotation that's affected.
Of note - the animations look fine in Smash Forge's viewport. But exporting the SMD and viewing it in either Noesis or 3DS Max gives these Gimbal locks and noise.
