I am a PhD student and according to my limited knowledge. I can say the following areas where you can apply Data Science to Business Process Management.
1.Technology - Try exploring areas like - IoT, CPS. 2.Functional Area - Supply Chain, Finance and Marketing.
There are many research going on in CPS - Automotive, Industry 4.0,you can explore it to get a more recent examples.
