[Questions] how do I slipstream an update on the original archive
Forgive my ignorance this is the first time. I have received a base archive and a separate already extracted update archive. Both in nsp format. How do I apply the updated files over the base files
*Edit or possibly it is the diff file you speak of. I haven't compared the file names
The instructions show how the reverse is done. Extracting a patch from a base archive. Or something like that
I'm interested in applying a patch or update to the original version. Any help appreciated. Do I extract everything. Is that the only way. Extracting the update files with the help of the base files. And then creating s new archive? How do I create an archive. NSP archive in that case
Again forgive my lack of knowledge understanding
Hi John.
Yeah language around this sort of thing is difficult.
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking:
I have [...] a separate already extracted update archive [...] in nsp format. [...] *Edit or possibly it is the diff file you speak of. I haven't compared the file names
A patch for a Nintendo Switch title is basically a diff generated from the base (version 0) title and the updated version of the title. If you have a patch in NSP format, and it was dumped using a reputable game dump tool. It's probably in this diff format. There sadly isn't a change in file extension.
The patch is applied by the Nintendo Switch and NSTool in the same way, they apply it dynamically when data is loaded from the title. You supply the base NCA file, the patch NCA file, and NSTool treats it like a composite NCA file, and when you extract files it's the base data with the diff applied.

Well if you want to apply the patch in a permanent sense, transforming the base title into the new version using the patch. NSTool can't help you build the new archive, but it can extract all the data that would be needed to create the new archive. I don't know of any tools that do this. Most people just install the base game, and the patch to get the "latest version"
