Go to top Button

A go to top button would be great to quickly get back to the top of long pages, or on mobile devices where scrolling back up a page is much slower.

The button would only appear when one scrolls down the page. Here an example form the Eagle software, that nicely showcases it https://i.imgur.com/OqrBlXn.mp4

There are 3 main things that have to be considered when developing this feature.

  • Firstly, if the button "teleports" up the view, or if it quickly scrolls to the top of the page.

  • Secondly, the button content. It could say "go to top" or simply be some kind of arrow/ diamond bracket pointing upwards.

  • Thirdly, until what point the button brings the user up to. Either the first header or the top of the page.

I think a smooth but quick upwards motion to the top of the page would be best. (But a teleport, the way Eagle does it would also not be so bad)

2 good examples are WhatsApp and Discord which have a go to recent message button.
