Add Card Layout Option for Document Listings
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Yes. When browsing a Quartz site with many documents or pages, the current list-based layout lacks visual organisation and hierarchy. I'm always frustrated when trying to quickly scan or navigate content, everything feels too flat and text-heavy, which makes the user experience less intuitive and less engaging.
Describe the solution you'd like I’d like to have a "Document Card View" layout similar to the one in the screenshot I’ve attached. Each card would contain a title, a short description, and optionally an icon or tag. The cards would be neatly arranged in a responsive grid. This would make content easier to browse, visually more appealing, and help users navigate through large collections of documents or categories more efficiently.
Describe alternatives you've considered
- I've tried customizing Quartz with some CSS tweaks, but it’s quite hacky and not maintainable.
- I also looked into creating custom index pages manually using HTML/CSS, but this defeats the purpose of using Quartz as a site builder.
- Using other frameworks like Docusaurus or Astro, but I prefer to stick with Quartz for its simplicity and Obsidian compatibility.
Additional context Here is a screenshot of the kind of layout I’m referring to:
This layout improves visual navigation, especially for documentation-heavy or knowledge-sharing sites. Having an official, built-in card layout option for index pages or folders would be a major quality-of-life improvement.
Obsidian just announced Bases. These will likely have a Card view in the future by default. I'm inclined to wait for that before implementing a Card view in Quartz.

Obisidian introduced bases recently. I hope to see this new feature soon. 👍
