Add Australian ICD-10-AM codes

Open jackwasey opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

https://www.accd.net.au/Downloads.aspx has download links for classification software, documentation and some mapping data, which may be reproducible. E.g. ICD-10-AM to ICD-10. The documentation states the material is licences under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/au/

The ICD-10-AM to ICD-10-WHO mapping lists include ICD-10-AM code, ICD-10-AM desdcription,ICD-10-WHO code (when available). E.g.

U50.01,Rugby Union,Act =0,,

Which does not have an ICD-10-WHO code. And also, e.g.,

T88.53,Failed anaesthesia ,T88.5,,

Like ICD-10-CM in the USA, many codes have more detail than ICD-10-WHO

If possible, this would be extremely helpful to have for my work with Ambulance Victoria!

Is this a simple mapping of ICD-10 or ICD-10-CM codes to the respective ICD-10-AM codes based on the mapping tables in https://www.accd.net.au/Downloads.aspx?

I'm willing to help if you can point me at the right direction.

Good question. I have yet to really get into this, and could use help. Each country so far has been different:

  • WHO is mostly a subset of ICD-10-CM
  • Most countries base off WHO, and add some codes
  • Belgium is almost exactly icd-10-cm, with translations into Dutch and French.

Elucidating these differences would be a good blog post or vignette for someone to create.

It doesn't matter what the scheme actually is, unless they add characters which do not validate the same way, e.g. moving the decimal place, inserting non WHO or non ICD-10-CM characters, etc.

ICD-10 to ICD-10-AM mapping tables user manual from https://www.accd.net.au/Downloads.aspx: "The ICD-10 to ICD-10-AM mapping tables demonstrate the relationship between the codes in the World Health Organization’s ICD-10 2016 (including updates) and ICD-10-AM Eleventh Edition."

I can map out the 11th Edition with the current ICD-10 2016 revision data in the package (hopefully updates were included in that set of data).

Also in ICD-10 to ICD-10-AM mapping tables user manual from https://www.accd.net.au/Downloads.aspx: "The official WHO updates to ICD-10 have been included in the tables. Therefore, the list of ICD-10 codes in the tables for each new edition may differ slightly to take account of the latest changes to codes made by the WHO Update Reference Committee."

It will be tricky to map earlier revisions of ICD-10-AM from earlier versions of ICD-10 as there are currently 11 revisions of ICD-10-AM listed in https://www.accd.net.au/Downloads.aspx and 10 versions of ICD-10 listed in https://www.who.int/classifications/icd/icdonlineversions/en/ and the manual does not mention which for each of the earlier revisions of ICD-10-AM.

ICD-10-AM codes for conditions related to Charlson Comorbidity was also published in 2004 by Sundararajan et al.. This could also probably be included in the package data as there are many journal articles that cite this manuscript.
