internationalize documentation and messages

I would like this package to be useful in developing countries, and so would love to offer internationalized messages and documentation. Anything is better than nothing and this can be done piecemeal. Would be happy to work with any contributors to make this happen. No particular language preferences right now, but I think French and Spanish would cover a lot of countries, albeit as second or third languages, not local languages.
