icd is adaptable to alternative annual and national versions of ICD codes. I would like to support this activity if contributors are able to be involved in preparing their local data.

Coming in icd.data 1.1 and icd 4.0 : France, Belgium, and WHO codes. Most likely, these will be downloaded on first use, if user agrees, or possible distributed in separate CRAN packages.
