Data License

Heya,

I was wondering which license terms apply to this data? The http://www.demarcation.org.za/ site seems to be down at the moment and the internet archive doesn't have all of it indexed.

Thanks!

Hi Peter

Sorry for the late reply.

It’s a bit tricky because the license is dependent on the source, which isn’t always clear, and even if it is they often state that you cannot use it for anything.

Sometimes I publish maps that are not from official sources, as they just aren’t available anywhere.

I take the position that data produced by the government is free to use, as per the Constitution. See Section 32.

All I can tell you is that so far, no-one has complained.

Kind regards Jason

Thanks for your response, I'm just trying to understand the implications of downstream consumption of the data.

From what you've said, it's unfortunately too hairy to use for any commercial projects, if be interested in helping to figure out what the status is exactly.
