I don’t think it’s a good idea to rewrite people’s code without them telling you to do so.
This is what the “Undo” button is for — you can click it, edit the commit message, then re-commit.
@aminya You can already do this by undoing the most recent commit, rewording the message, then committing again.

In #5914, @cheshire137 suggested using a “k” suffix, which would eliminate the need for locale-specific formatting.
I think it’s not too urgent because (a) commits don’t come in fractions and (b) it’s likely users from countries that use commas as decimal points will have some familiarity...
