Video blacklist / whitelist

By implementing a video blocker feature it should be possible to blacklist channels, videos in specific languages, unpopular videos, high dislikes videos. And more, I guess.

This functionality is implemented in SkyTube app:

this sounds useful but i think it is more helpful to improve subscriptions, suggestions, feeds and organising. filtering feels a bit like cleaning a landfill with a trash picker.

for example i would like to have a suggestion feed that consists of the videos that are suggested in any video of any of the channels i have subscribed to sorted by how often they appear in the suggestions.

+ the videos that are suggested in any watched videos

Just to add another use-case similar to #2979 I too am looking for a kid-friendly youtube experience. In my case, I want to have an instance that can only access videos from subscribed channels. I think it's possible to get very close with existing config.yml:

  • feed_menu: ["Subscriptions", "Playlists"] (remove "Popular", "Trending")
  • default_home: Subscriptions
  • related_videos: false

This gets close, but still missing:

  • enforce being logged in somehow (#446 discusses this but not clear if fully implemented)
  • always add subscriptions: to search parameters

The goal here is not a perfect walled garden (since accessing unfiltered youtube is so easy in general), but rather a "safe" place for especially younger kids to enjoy videos without ending up in any rabbit holes.

Another potential idea for consideration:

Perhaps add some sort of filter list similar to Ublock Origin/Ublocklist so that users may curate and share lists of channels that others may desire to block.

I'd be willing to guess that currently there is no such standardized format for Youtube. It would probably make sense to use a similar list format to that of Ublock internally.

given the increase in bad “AI” content and bad content in general, this could be a really necessary feature

  • mark a channel as unwanted
  • mark a video as unwanted

and include this in future suggestions made by invidious
