Create/update shortcuts for installed items
Both start menu & desktop (have an app-wide setting for those who don't like desktop shortcuts).
Shortcuts should be to itchio:// URLs so we get a chance to do update checking, request+pass API keys, choose launch target, etc.
Later in the game, there could be one shortcut per launch target (with additional URL components) but that's not required for the initial feature.
Is this happening? Has it happened?
Still hasn't quite happened, but is still happening.
Any progress? I'd love to see this.
Followed a bunch of issues and ended up here.
It's a shame development of features like this has stalled.
Anyway, trying to DIY: if I create a shortcut myself it seems to be running with different settings? Progress for the game I'm playing is different to when I launch it through itch app.
I wish this would be implemented quickly. I installed Godot through itchio app, so that I get the automatic updates. Because the executable name changes from version to version, I am unable to manually set up the shortcut, as it would break on every update. So I am stuck to open it through the app.
It's been almost 8 years, could we have some updates on this feature? @fasterthanlime @leafo @alts This is really a minimum feature for a game launcher.
Thank you in advance
@ fasterthanlime hasn't worked at itch for many years now... perhaps ~2020 ...which might explain things.

How would you go about creating the shortcut manually? I would love to do it, but can't figure out how.
Any update on this? I would love to just open the games from desktop.
Echoing the above, the lack of this feature after all these years is frankly absurd. HTML5 games in particular can't even be launched from their folders, meaning they must be launched manually through the app.
