Your best bet to cope with that is to use the tool Butler, which can go as far as I could find out up to 32GB. Butler is however a CLI (command line interface) tool, so you will need to know how to use a DOS command interface if you are on Windows or a Unix Shell if you are on Mac or Linux.

Butler does not require your game to be packed, you can just command it to upload your release directory(or folder) and Butler will take care of it everything is properly uploaded and packaged into a zip. On larger uploads Butler also the better tool as it supports "diffing" so if you want to upload a bugfix or anything it won't reupload what hasn't changed, but only the actual changes. Not only does that save the itch.io serves loads trouble, but it also saves you bandwidth and not to mention TIME.

The official "why" can be found when you click this link.

And the explanation on how Butler can be used can be found here.

Nearly all my current games have been uploaded and updated by using Butler, and I'm not sure what I would do without it.
