Sometimes Toxs can't be online on the same LAN without internet

Open jennyma228 opened this issue 10 years ago • 6 comments

duplicate steps:

1.Computer A & B both connect to LAN ports on a router which has a WAN port connect to internet. 2.uTox Alice start running at Computer A, wait a moment, Alice is Online, 3.Disconnect the router's WAN port internet,wait a moment, Alice is Offline, 4.Then uTox Bob start running at Computer B,wait a moment, Bob is Online, 5.Alice and Bob are friends,but Alice is still offline and can't connect to Bob without internet. Even that Bob is still Online. 6.if you restart uTox Alice or WAN port connect to internet, it will be OK.

~~You'd have to bootstrap a local node, that or tox would have to advertise private IP addresses to the public.~~

Disregard, I'm dumb.

I can confirm that two tox instances on a single computer without an internet connection (using qTox with UDP and IPv6 activated) won't connect to each other, too.

Can confirm this too.

@irungentoo thoughts on this one?

I don't get it, how can Bob be "online" if the WAN port was disconnected when he tried to start Tox? The bootstrap nodes are normally on the Internet, not on the LAN.

confirmed. same problem. Two Tox instances running in the same subnet can't connect each other without WAN access (i.e. being disconnected from Internet)
