I don't see a problem with this. I think a project to find all existing numerics (a numerics mapping project, if you will) in the most commonly used IRC daemons should happen so a better idea of what numerics are in use where.

I'm presently writing an IRC library and am gathering up lots of numerics from lots of places and documenting known conflicts. When I finish this work I will make a table, unless someone beats me to the punch.

EDIT: I've got some preliminary numerics. Note the 's from inspircd are numerics used in various parts of the code which don't have a corresponding entry in numerics.h (there's also some numerics which are used in the code directly that /are/ in numerics.h, but that's off topic for this discussion).

This issue was discussed at today's IRCv3 coordination meeting.

The conclusion is that a numerics registry service will be created, and then from there we will do the allocations once that is done.
