Desktop IPFS begins to prevent browsers from resolving URLs
- OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
- Version of IPFS Desktop 0.43.0 (AppImage)
Describe the bug After about 5 - 7 minutes of operation, desktop IPFS starts to prevent web browsers from resolving URLs. It is not possible to open web pages.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- start the IPFS Desktop
- wait 5 to 10 minutes
- try opening any website (e.g., “google.com”) in any browser
- page loading should fail
Additional context
- Tests performed on the following browsers:
- Brave 1.79.126 (64 bits)
- Firefox 139.0.4 (64 bits)
- The browsers have been installed and run as part of the Flatpak system (sandboxing).
- The file “error.log” did not contain logs from the day the error occurred, so I do not include it.
- The attached “combined.log” file contains logs from the day the error occurred. The missing (cut) line contained the PeerID.

I suspect this is not related to ipfs-desktop, but interaction between kubo (ipfs demon Desktop app uses) and your ISP (router you have, or one of your ISPs).
@heEXDe two questions:
- do you have ipfs-companion browser extension installed and enabled, or just ipfs-desktop?
- IF you turn off IPFS Desktop (exit it fully via tray icon) does the problem go away?
- if not, does the problem go away after 5-15m?
- if not, does the problem go away if you turn off and on the router/modem you got from your ISP?
@lidel :
- Yes, I also have ipfs-companion browser extension installed.
- Fully turning IPFS Desktop off does not solve the problem.
- Turning off IPFS Desktop and waiting 5 - 15 minutes does not solve the problem either.
- The only solution to the problem that I have found is a full reboot of the PC.
