[enhancement]: Auto-switch to editing mode on clicking Control Layers tab should be an option

What should this feature add?

When you click Control Layers tab it switches automatically to the editing mode. This should be an option in Settings, not a forced behaviour. Quickly changing a value in Control Layers tab in the left pane shouldn't force users to go back to the viewing mode.

Just a thought: would making Z also auto-switch tabs (swapping between Settings and CL) be a bad idea? That essentially means binding CL tab to editing mode and Settings tab to viewer mode.
