What should this feature add?

Sometimes it is really useful to help the SD model to generate an image that I really want (especially when it concerns human figures). For this case it would be convinient to paste a reference image at some point into the Unified Canvas and then ask the DNN to "integrate" it into the surroundings.

Alternatives

The request is: to make an option to add a custom image from the gallery to a specific point of the canvas (now I can only replace the whole canvas image).

Aditional Content

That could be a button on a panel to import and/or a context menu item in the gallery.

It would be great if would be possible to assign/draw a transparency mask for the uploaded asset (like in photoshop with layer masks)

This has been on my mind for a while, but haven't gotten to it yet. A future update to the canvas will let you move any image/generation, including ones you import (and allow you to import images to canvas without overwriting the whole canvas).

We won't be expanding the photoshop-ish capabilities much further, if it all. Instead of making a crappy version of photoshop, we will work to improve a workflow that uses photoshop etc for its strengths, and invokeai for its strengths.

This would be so groovy, just ran into this limitation today. I can get around it with photoshop, but the ability to add multiple images to the unified canvas would be a game changer. That way I could mask over them and not even have to use photoshop! :)

Yes, please, this is needed I want to connect two images that aren't immediately accessible in the gallery, due to being external, or generated a dozen images ago, etc.

Please look into it again! having the ability to upload different images to the canvas without resetting it would be huge!
