What should this feature add?

There is a need for a unified installer that works as similarly as possible on all platforms, doesn't rely on arcane .bat syntax (or even shell, for that matter), and can utilize more sophisticated and maintainable logic than what can be done with shell scripting languages

This is not an urgent enhancement as long as the current installer works, but it may become a priority if it starts breaking down with future releases.
