Can't backup or sync an external hard drive on macOS Big Sur

I'm unable to backup or sync an external hard drive on macOS Big Sur. Selecting a folder from the external drive works just fine. What I'd like to achieve is to have an external hard drive backed up on possibly synched as well.

Any chance you guys can support that.
