Implement OPDS
Gregoire (Biblio) suggested there are better UIs that browse archive back end for books using OPDS.
It should be relatively easy to implement, though I haven't looked at it yet. Its very similar to RSS (or rather ATOM)
UNSORTED NOTES FORM MARCH 2019 WITH MEK
Mek Karpeles [2:41 PM] http://opds-browser-demo.herokuapp.com/collection/https%3A%2F%2Fbookserver.archive.org%2Fsimple/ see also #books-opds http://www.librarysimplified.org/ https://confluence.nypl.org/display/SIM/Open+Collections — other partners using opds (edited) http://www.aldiko.com is the best in the opds class (site seems down)
UNSORTED NOTES FROM SLACK FEb 2020
- Top of catalog = http://bookserver.archive.org
- Clients: SimplyE and Aldiko both integrate w/ our OPDS feed
- Status: Our feed is still somewhat broken — I believe some of our auth / lending are not up-to-date with the latest standards and may be letting patrons down / failing frequently
- Maintained by me (Mek) and @ charles, with @ brenton as higher-level point (LibrarySimplified has its own slack w/ some folks from NYPL)
- You might ask @ brenton for an intro to the LibrarySimplified slack — if our catalog needs help, I think @ brenton, @ charles and I would all be enthusiastic for improvements + contributions there.
- Repo: https://git.archive.org/ia/bookserver
- I believe there’s a tmux session running which is running the docker container possibly even in debug mode.
- Note - the bookserver.archive.org is hand built catalog rather than using collections.
- Mitra: Ok - will take a look, its a bit odd in that it uses sub urls like http://bookserver.archive.org/group/ruthenlowlibrary but https://archive.org/details/ruthenlowlibrary isn’t a collection (it fails)
- Mek: It is not a mapping by any means of collections on Archive.org. The collection structure of Archive.org is irrelevant to OPDS (currently)
Wrong @brenton.
