Dictation feature unexpectedly times out.
Hi! I'm writing about IntelliBar's dictation/whisper transcription feature, which is one of my favorite parts of the app. However, I've noticed a significant UX issue— the dictation times out after a certain duration without:
- Saving the recorded audio
- Allowing users to continue from where they left off
- Warning users about the upcoming timeout
This limitation often results in lost work and creates a frustrating user experience. I would like to suggest the following possible improvements:
- Implement a continuation feature that allows users to resume dictation from where they left off after a timeout.
- Add a recovery system that saves the audio of untranscribed dictation, enabling users to recover the transcript manually if needed.
- Include a visual indicator showing:
- The remaining time before timeout
- A warning when the timeout is approaching
These changes would significantly improve the user experience and prevent loss of content.
For now, we just increased the timeout significantly (5x, from 2 minutes to 10 minutes). When the next release comes out, try it and tell us if this works out for you. Thanks for the detailed feedback and ideas!
