Transcription timeout

Open KirkPX opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

Transcription Timeout: • The transcribe function has a time limit, after which it automatically stops listening, even if the user is still speaking. • There is no option to configure or extend this timeout duration, which disrupts longer inputs. Lost Transcriptions After Timeout: • When the transcribe function times out, the captured text is neither pasted into the target field nor saved to the clipboard. • As a result, users lose the intended audio transcription, leading to frustration and inefficiencies.

Expected Behavior: • Transcription should continue for as long as the user is speaking or provide a configurable timeout setting. • If the transcription times out, the captured text should either be automatically pasted into the target field or saved to the clipboard for manual pasting.

Thanks! We'll try to address these for a future release.

Hey @KirkPX,

I've looking at this for the second time. Last time we increased the timeout from 1 minute to 2 minutes. Now we're increasing it from 2 minutes to 15 minutes. We hope this will accommodate all scenarios. Do you think this will be enough for you?

We keep a timeout so a user doesn't accidently start recording and then leave the recording forever. Do you think that makes sense?

Hi, yeah, that probably works well! I generally find that around 10 minutes is when I'm able to fully convey a thought, so 15 is a good buffer. Might be nice to have a status bar that shows there's only x amount of time left or something.. not sure.

Hi there, I've been testing this with Groq and I just had it expire on me, but it wasn't more than a few minutes of talking.

It would be great if it would fail gracefully such that it allows me to paste the output. Instead, it just stops recording and then doesn't send the audio to be transcribed. I try and paste but it only pasted the last thing that I copied

When you wrote this comment the new release that included the 15 minutes timeout wasn't out. If you get the latest version now, it should have the bigger timeout.

We'll see what we can do about that.
