Impossible to install in private channel
Describe the bug I have a Teams with a private channel. I can add the Github app to the teams, but only into a public channel, not the private channel I'd like the bot to be installed into.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Go to the App store in Teams
- Click on "Github (Preview)"
- Click on "Add to a Team"
- Enter the Team name, only the public channels are listed in the lookup field
- Try to enter the private channel name: it isn't accepted
Expected behavior I would think it would be possible to activate the app in a private channel.
Desktop (please complete the following information):
- OS: macos
- Version: mojave 10.14.6
This is with Teams 1.3.00.18164
@masterzen : you should be able to use the app in any channel once it is installed at the team level (general channel). can you please give it a try?
@gauravsaralMs I did multiple times to no avail.
So I tried again, being team owner, I first created a private channel (invited only myself), and tried to @github
to subscribe to a repository notifications:

It doesn't find the @github (Preview)
bot. It is available in the public General
channel.
So I created a new public channel to test:

And indeed, I can interact with the bot in this public channel.
My conclusion is that something either in our account or team settings is preventing access to the github app in private channel. I just don't know what :)
@masterzen : ok.. your analysis seems correct and this is due to teams platform limitation 😞
Quoting from here
Currently, private channels support connectors and tabs (except Stream, Planner, and Forms). We're working on full apps support for private channels, including messaging extensions and bots.
we will check with teams platform team to see when this support is coming.

given that this is a known limitation from teams side so this is more of a feature request. cc: @ashokirla
@gauravsaralMs, thanks for the answer. Indeed this seems to be a limitation of private channels in MSTeams. Thank you for the prompt answer.
I also wanted to add GitHub to a private channel. Not all my team members want to see the notifications for GitHub.
