12 hour time format

My calendar is display events in 24 hour time format but I would prefer 12 hour am/pm time. How can I adjust this?

I have already verified my locale.

I'm not actually sure but I think the datetime library just decides 24hr times for some settings of locale, specifically the LC_TIME env variable.
